Pogostemon patchouli, an aromatic plant, commonly known as "Patchouli" is a member of mint family, Lamiaceae used worldwide for its essential oil. It has got commercial importance and in Ayurvedic system of medicine this plant is commonly used in digestive conditions, nervous and skin disorders. Phytochemical studies have shown presence of many valuable compounds such as sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic acids which are responsible for wide spectrum of pharmacological activities including, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiemetic, antiseptic, astringent, diuretic, febrifuge, platelet activation inhibitory, antidepressant, anti-influenza, sedative, tonic, cytotoxic and insect repellant properties. Thus present review explores the ethanomedicinal, pharmacological or traditional knowledge along with morphological phytochemical and toxicological reports of Pogostemon patchouli and aims at gathering the research work undertaken till date on this plant in order to provide sufficient baseline information for future works and commercial exploitation.Keywords

Cucumis sativus is plant which is widely grown throughout the world. Cucumber is mainly consumed as raw fruit in various parts of the world. Cucumber plant has various medicinal values which are described in Ayurveda. In Ayurveda it is said to be used for burning sensation, swollen eyes, anuria, dermatitis, burns, skin whitening, emollient, and also as moisturizer. In India-China raw ripe fruit is used in treatment of dysentery in children's. Cucumber plant is also potent anthelmintic. Seed oil is used in treatment of insomnia and frontal headache. Mainly flavonoids, glycosides and tannins are responsible for various activities in plants. This article mainly covers nutritive aspects, traditional uses, various chemical constituents and pharmacology of cucumber.Keywords

Ficus hispida is a plant which is of moderate size and is an avenue tree. It is been found throughout the sub tropical regions of India. It grows throughout the year as a wild plant; but sometimes its cultivation is done for the fruits which are edible. It is popular plant in Indigenous system of medicine like Ayurveda, Sidhha, Unani and Homeopathy. Its various parts used are bark, leaves, ischolar_mains, fruits and latex. This plant is used as an anti-inflammatory, anti-emetic, anti-ulcer, cardio-protective, wound-healing, anti fungal, anti microbial, anti- diarrhoeal, hypoglycaemic, hepatoprotective; etc. In this review article an effort is made to give detailed survey of the plant's Pharmacognosy, Phytochemistry, Traditional uses, and various formulations in Ayurveda and Unani system of medicine and Pharmacological activity. In this article it is also mentioned about the presence of toxic elements, essential minerals, aflatoxins and pesticide residue.Keywords

The plant Swertia chirata, aboriginal to Himalayas in India, Nepal and Bhutan, have been used for millennia, to cure variety of ailments and diseases. The chief bioactive constituents of plant are xanthones, flavanoids, iridoids, secoiridoids glycosides, which plays momentous role in its biological activities like antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, antioxidant, antipyretic, antimalarial, analgesic, anticarcinogenic, antibacterial, antiviral, gastroprotective, antileishmanial, anthelmentic. Its medicinal usage is declared in American and British pharmacopoeias, Indian Pharmaceutical codex and in different conventional systems of medicines like Ayurveda, Unani and Sidha. Various studies have successfully done to prove its medicinal uses which are traditionally mentioned. As a result of its range of pharmacological properties and active phytoconstituents, Swertia chirata is used in various polyherbal formulations which are available in market to cure different diseases. In this present review the attempt is made to compile and document information on different aspects of Swertia chirata, however the main focus is on its chemical constituents, pharmacological activities, and medicinal uses.Keywords
